Membership Guidelines
For North Tongass Fire Department Applicants
It is the intent of the North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department to select and screen applicants who will best suit the department’s mission and goals according to the membership guidelines.
In order for an applicant to be accepted as a member of this organization, you must meet the following guidelines;
Minimum Basic Requirements:
o 18 years of age
o Possess a current & valid driver’s license from any state, able to obtain an Alaskan drivers within one year.
o Provide criminal and driving background check. Department will reimburse applicant’s expenses upon acceptance as member.
o Sign Hepatitis B Vaccination form regarding acceptance or declining vaccine.
Additional Requirements:
1. Applicants may be disqualified for any felony or misdemeanor convictions involving, but not limited to, driving, violence, alcohol, drugs—including misuse of prescription drugs, and deceit.
2. Applicants must not be on any mind-altering prescription drugs or have consumed alcohol while on duty.
3. Applicants must pass department medical physical and Physical Agility Test (PAT) to be considered for membership.
4. The membership committee will check a minimum of three references on each applicant. Any unfavorable references may cause the application to be rejected. The membership committee will determine what is unfavorable.
5. Must have good personal hygiene.
6. Applicants must understand rules and regulations set forth by the department and division for which they are applying.

** This drill is on Saturday and is mandatory unless you have a current certificate of file.
Staff will be available Sunday’s from 11:00. This time can be utilized to make up your PAT and/or Fit Testing.
Staff will be available in the mornings on Saturday’s by appointment only! You must schedule an appointment no later than Thursday.
NTVFD will be accepting KFD and STVFD attendance for the following mandatory classes:
Blood borne Pathogens
Domestic Violence
Hazcom
CPR/First Aid
In order to receive credit for any mandatory class taken with KFD or STVFD, you are responsible for bringing in a copy of their KFD or STVFD drill sheet.

Complete the online course and return to the intro page to take the final test. Complete the test and fill out the information sheet.
Once you receive your certificate please bring it to the office so a copy can be put into your file. |
